Prayer and Liturgy 2026- 2027
At Mount Carmel, prayer and liturgy are at the heart of our daily school life. They play a vital role in nurturing the spiritual growth of our children and fostering a strong sense of community.
We follow the Prayer and Liturgy Directory – "To Love You More Dearly", which guides and enriches our worship, helping us to provide meaningful and age-appropriate opportunities for all pupils to encounter God.
This page celebrates the special prayer and liturgical events that take place throughout the school year. From daily prayers and celebration of the word worship to Masses, assemblies, and religious festivals, we gather regularly to reflect, rejoice and grow closer to God.

Starting the New Academic Year in Faith- Friday 4th September
We began our new academic year with a wonderful whole-school Mass – a beautiful way to come together as a school family and place the year ahead in God’s hands.
Our Year 6 children led the readings and prayers with great confidence and reverence. It was also lovely to see Years 1–6 singing so beautifully and joining together in the responses.
It was a very special celebration and a wonderful reminder that, as a school community, we begin our journey together with faith at the heart of all that we do.
Gardener and Seed Assembly - 24th September 2026
We held a very special Gardener and Seed Assembly to welcome our new Reception children and their families to Mount Carmel.
Our Year 5 children became the ‘gardeners’, taking on the special role of nurturing and supporting our Reception ‘seeds’ as they begin their journey through school.
Through beautiful singing, Scripture and readings led by Year 5, we reflected on Jesus’ words, “Let the little children come to me.”

Season of Creation – Living Water (September 2026)
Mrs Seaborn led a special Celebration of the Word as part of the Season of Creation. The children listened to the message from the prophet Ezekiel, where he sees life-giving water flowing from the Temple. We reflected on the beautiful message:
“Where the river flows, everything will live.” Ezekiel 47:9
Together, we thought about how water brings life and how we are called to care for God’s wonderful creation.
The children were encouraged to “be a drop” – remembering that even the smallest action can make a difference. Just as individual drops of water join together to form a river, our small acts of kindness and care for creation can come together to create a river of change.
The children were so inspired by this message that some of our KS2 pupils independently created their own posters to spread the message and encourage others to care for our common home.
Children Leading Celebration of the Word
Each week, four children from every class are given the special responsibility of planning and leading their own Celebration of the Word, based on the Sunday Gospel. Using The Wednesday Word to help them explore and understand the Gospel message, the children work together to plan how they will lead their class in prayer and worship. They carefully choose music, prepare reflections, write their own prayers and decide on a meaningful Go Forth message to help everyone put the Gospel into action. The children also think carefully about how they will prepare the prayer space and set up the altar, ensuring that their Celebration of the Word is a special and reverent time for their class. We are now four weeks into this new approach and it has been wonderful to see the children becoming increasingly confident and independent in planning and leading worship. They are growing in their understanding of Scripture and recognising that they each have an important role to play in the prayer life of our school.
Y3D Class Worship- 2nd October
Year 3D led a beautiful worship to mark the Month of the Rosary. The children confidently shared Scripture readings and guided parents and Key Stage Two pupils through a decade of the Rosary. Their reverence, prayerful reflections, and enthusiastic participation helped create a special atmosphere of worship and reflection for everyone present.
It was wonderful to see the children leading with such confidence and faith, helping our school community come together in prayer. We are very proud of Year 3D for the thoughtful and respectful way they celebrated this important time in the Church’s calendar.
Praying the Rosary During October
Throughout the month of October, children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 were invited to gather in the Prayer Shelter and Prayer Room during lunchtime to pray a decade of the Rosary together.
It was wonderful to see so many children choosing to spend part of their lunch break in prayer and reflection. Their enthusiasm, reverence, and commitment to deepening their faith created a calm and prayerful atmosphere, helping to make the Month of the Rosary a special time for our whole school community.
Infant Department Pray the Rosary
To mark the beginning of the Month of the Rosary, the Infant Department gathered at the Prayer Shelter for a special Celebration of the Word. The children came together in a peaceful and prayerful setting to pray the Rosary, reflecting on the life of Jesus and Mary.
