Catholic Social Teaching

CST Banner.jpg

At Mount Carmel, Catholic Social Teaching (CST) plays a vital role in shaping our school’s mission, values, and daily life. Rooted in the Gospel and the teachings of the Catholic Church, CST helps us guide children in understanding how their faith calls them to act with love, justice and compassion in the world around them.

Catholic Social Teaching is built on key principles such as the dignity of the human person, the common good, solidarity, care for creation, and the option for the poor and vulnerable. These teachings are not just abstract ideas - they are practical values that help our children grow into thoughtful, responsible, and active members of society.

At Mount Carmel, we promote CST in a number of ways:

·Through our Religious Education curriculum;

·By making links across other curriculum areas;

·In whole-school worship, classroom worship and other prayer events;

·By encouraging social action, fundraising, and community service;

·Through daily acts of kindness, respect, and inclusion;

·And by fostering a strong sense of responsibility for others and for our world.

By embedding Catholic Social Teaching into school life, we help children understand that their faith is something to be lived out every day - at school, at home, and in the wider community. Together with our families, parish, and local community, we strive to raise young people who are not only academically capable, but also spiritually aware and socially responsible.

Below are some key documents: explanations of each of the CST principles, CST links across the curriculum for each year group and how these faith-based principles are lived out across our school.
