Prayer and Liturgy 2025- 2026
At Mount Carmel, prayer and liturgy are at the heart of our daily school life. They play a vital role in nurturing the spiritual growth of our children and fostering a strong sense of community.
We follow the Prayer and Liturgy Directory – "To Love You More Dearly", which guides and enriches our worship, helping us to provide meaningful and age-appropriate opportunities for all pupils to encounter God.
This page celebrates the special prayer and liturgical events that take place throughout the school year. From daily prayers and celebration of the word worship to Masses, assemblies, and religious festivals, we gather regularly to reflect, rejoice and grow closer to God.
Take a moment to explore some of the highlights from our liturgical celebrations this academic year.
You can also find our Annual Plan of Provision in the documents section at the bottom of the page.
Monday 8th September – Celebration of Our Lady’s Birthday
We began our new term in a very special way by gathering as a whole school to celebrate the Birthday of Our Lady. The service took place in church, where we came together in prayer and reflection to honour Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Our Year 6 children led the service beautifully, guiding us through thoughtful prayers and leading the school in singing traditional Marian hymns. Each class had thoughtfully created a beautiful birthday card for Our Lady, which they presented at the altar as part of the celebration.
It was a joyful and reverent occasion that reminded us of Mary’s important role in our faith and helped us to start the term with hearts focused on love, gratitude and devotion.
Monday 22nd September - International Day of Peace.
Y5H led the Junior Department and their families in beautiful prayer and worship for the International Day of Peace. The service was a moving reminder of our calling to be peacemakers in the world and the children led with reverence, reflection and hope. Through scripture, song and prayer, we were encouraged to be instruments of peace in our homes, our school, and beyond.
Tuesday 30th September- Gardeners and Seeds
Our Y5 Gardeners welcomed their Reception Seed in a beautiful assembly. It was a beautiful occasion filled with prayer, songs and warm wishes as we officially welcomed our youngest pupils into the school family.
Friday 3rd October- Month of the Holy Rosary
Y3D began the month of October by honouring the beautiful tradition of praying the Rosary. Y3D led a truly inspiring assembly to mark this special devotion, reminding us of the power of prayer and reflection.
Throughout the month of October, the children have also taken part in the Mark 10 Mission Rosary Challenge. Each day, classes prayed a decade of the Rosary together in class.
We also held a special Celebration of the Word for KS1 at the Prayer Shelter, where the children gathered to pray the Rosary.
In addition, our Thursday Rosary Club gave KS2 children the opportunity to pray together in the KS2 Prayer Room during lunchtime.
Wednesday 22nd October- Harvest of Hope
We ended the half term with a truly special celebration — our Harvest of Hope festival, held in church. It was a joyful and deeply moving occasion, beautifully led by our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, supported by our talented Key Stage 2 choir.
During the celebration, we gathered in prayer and listened to readings from Scripture, reflecting on the many blessings we receive and the importance of sharing with others. Father Clement blessed the generous gifts and donations brought forward, which will support those in need within our wider community.
The theme linked perfectly with this Jubilee Year’s focus on being Pilgrims of Hope, reminding us of the values of community, gratitude, and generosity. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together in faith and thanksgiving, celebrating the hope that unites us as a school family.
Tuesday 11th November- Remembrance
Children from both departments came together in a quiet and respectful time of prayer for Remembrance. As a school community, we paused to honour and remember all those who have given their lives in service to others.
The children prayed with great sincerity, showing gratitude for the bravery and sacrifice of so many. It was a meaningful moment of reflection for us all.
Monday 1st December- Year 1 Advent Assembly
Year 1 beautifully marked the beginning of the Advent season by leading a wonderful Celebration of the Word for the Infant Department and their families.
The children confidently explained the meaning and symbols of the Advent wreath, sharing why its candles and colours are so important as we prepare for the coming of Jesus. They read scripture with great reverence, sang joyfully, and reflected on the many ways we can prepare our hearts for Jesus during this special time of year.
Advent 2025
During Advent, our school community came together in a number of meaningful ways to prepare for Christmas. We were delighted to share three stunning Nativity performances from Nursery, Reception and Year 2, which beautifully retold the Christmas story and filled us with joy and reflection.
The children also took part in the Parish Christmas Carol Service at St John Bosco Church, representing our school with reverence and enthusiasm. In the final week of term, the whole school gathered for a special Advent Mass at Mount Carmel Parish, providing a prayerful opportunity to reflect together as a community.
In addition, classes took part in collective worship throughout Advent, focusing on the symbolism of the Advent wreath and celebrating Christingle. These moments helped deepen the children’s understanding of the season and encouraged reflection, hope and generosity as we journeyed towards Christmas.
The Feast of the Epiphany and the Conclusion of the Jubilee Year- Tuesday 6th January 2026
As a school community, we came together to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany by attending Mass, followed by a Collective Worship Celebration of the Word assembly. This special time of prayer and reflection allowed us to mark both the Feast of the Epiphany and the conclusion of the Jubilee Year.
During our worship, we reflected on the theme of the Jubilee Year, Pilgrims of Hope, and celebrated all that we have achieved together throughout this meaningful year. We considered the journey we have made as a school community, recognising the growth, learning and faith we have shared along the way.
Although the Jubilee Year has now come to an end, we were reminded that we are still called to continue being pilgrims of hope and peace. As we move forward together, we remain committed to building bridges, strengthening our community and living out the values of faith, compassion and unity in our daily lives.
