Y6S Trip to Quarry Bank Mill
Date: 26th Nov 2025 @ 4:35pm
Year 6 recently stepped back in time during their history trip to Quarry Bank Mill in south Manchester. The children were fascinated by the old mill machines powered by the River Bollin and saw firsthand how cotton was spun during the Industrial Revolution. Hearing the thunderous machinery brought their classroom learning to life, helping them imagine what working conditions were like over 200 years ago.
They also visited the Apprentice House, where child workers as young as nine once lived, and learned about Samuel Greg, the mill’s owner. The tour sparked thoughtful discussions about childhood, fairness and daily life in the 18th century. It was an eye-opening and memorable trip that helped Year 6 understand history in a vivid, meaningful way.
