Year 6C Science: Investigating How Microorganisms Reproduce on Bread
In this investigation, we will explore how microorganisms, such as mould, reproduce and grow on bread. Mould is a type of fungus. It reproduces by producing tiny structures called spores, which can spread through the air. When spores land on a suitable surface, such as moist bread, they can grow into new mould.
We placed pieces of bread in different conditions and will observe what happens over time. We will investigate factors such as temperature, moisture and light and make careful observations and record any changes, such as the appearance of mould.
The investigation will help us understand that microorganisms are living things that can reproduce and grow, and that their growth is affected by the conditions around them. We should not touch or open mouldy bread, as some microorganisms can be harmful.
