Y6 Mould investigation
Date: 12th Oct 2026 @ 12:23pm
Year 6 became scientists for the week as we investigated where mould grows best. We left slices of bread in five different places: a tray cupboard, outside, on a radiator, in a fridge and on a windowsill.
After several days, the results were clear. The bread left in the tray cupboard and outside became the mouldiest of all. We discovered that these places were warm, damp and dark, creating perfect conditions for mould to grow.
The bread on the radiator, in the fridge and on the windowsill also grew mould, but not as much. Each location was missing one of the conditions that mould loves.
Although some of the bread looked quite disgusting, the investigation helped us understand how microorganisms grow and spread. We learned a lot about scientific observation, and we were all very relieved when it was finally time to throw the bread away!
