Celebrating St Brigid’s Day in Year 5H
Year 5H had a wonderful time celebrating St Brigid’s (our class saint) Day by learning about the life and legacy of one of Ireland’s most loved saints.
The children explored the life of St Brigid, discovering how she showed kindness, generosity and courage, and how her model of faith continues to inspire people today. They learned how St Brigid always cared for the poor and used what she had to help others, reminding us of the importance of compassion and sharing in our own lives.
We also learned about St Brigid’s famous cloak and the story of how it grew to cover a large piece of land. Inspired by this story, the children created their own mini cloaks, decorating them with care and creativity. These individual cloaks were then pieced together to form a beautiful class cloak, symbolising how everyone’s contribution is important and how we are stronger when we work together.
The children also learned how to make St Brigid’s Cross, discovering its meaning and why it is traditionally made and displayed at this time of year.
In addition, Year 5H worked together to write a class prayer, reflecting on St Brigid’s values and asking for help to live out kindness, generosity and faith in our everyday lives. We even finished our celebrations with a tasty treat!
It was a meaningful and creative way to celebrate St Brigid’s Day, and Year 5H should be very proud of their thoughtful work and teamwork.
