Today we started to explore our new book Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx by Andy Stanton. First we tried to work out the title by rearranging the words into the correct order. It was tricky to begin with but we worked it out in the end. Then we had a jigsaw of the front cover. We revealed a piece at a time and used our Voice 21 techniques to work as a team listening to other and building on different ideas.we looked for clues and made predictions about the story. We decided that the main character is a girl called Marcy. The blurb told us that she had to go to Ancient Egyptian to rescue her father. We decided she will travel back in time to save her Dad from a snake and she will have to show resilience to overcome obstacles, encounters with Egyptian gods and problems along the wayToday we began exploring our exciting new class book, Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx by Andy Stanton!
First, we had a bit of a challenge — the title was all mixed up! We worked together to rearrange the words into the correct order. It was quite tricky at first, but we didn’t give up and felt very proud when we finally solved it.
Next, we turned our attention to the front cover. We completed a jigsaw, revealing one piece at a time. Using our Voice 21 skills, we listened carefully to each other’s ideas and built on them as a team. It was fantastic to hear everyone sharing their thoughts and working together so respectfully.
As we looked closely at the cover, we searched for clues and made predictions about the story. We think the main character is a girl called Marcy. From reading the blurb, we discovered that she travels to Ancient Egypt to rescue her father. We had lots of exciting ideas — we predict she might travel back in time, face dangerous challenges like snakes, and even meet Egyptian gods!
We also thought about the important skills Marcy might need. We agreed she will have to show great resilience to overcome obstacles and solve problems along the way.
We can’t wait to read more and find out if our predictions are correct!.
