Identifying and Comparing Rocks

As part of their Science topic on Rocks, we transformed into real-life geologists this week!  Equipped with magnifying glasses and plenty of curiosity, the children explored a fascinating collection of rocks up close. They carefully examined each rock’s colour, paying attention to subtle shades they might not have noticed before. Using their magnifiers, they investigated the texture, noticing whether the rocks were smooth, rough, grainy, or something in between. They also searched for layers that revealed how some rocks were formed over time, and for sparkling crystals hidden inside others. It was a hands-on, scientific adventure and a fantastic way to bring their learning about rocks to life.
