Growing Resilience in Year 3: A Beautiful Journey Through Drama
Date: 1st May 2026 @ 9:02pm
Today was another wonderful step in our Year 3 resilience journey as we welcomed back Kate, our drama therapist. The children have already explored so much this year — from learning how their amazing brains work to discovering the story of the resilient farmers — and today they built on that learning in the most creative way.
Our focus was on developing a growth mindset, and the children threw themselves into the challenge with enthusiasm. Together, they created a drama that helped them shift their thinking from “I can’t do it” to the far more powerful “I can’t do it… yet.”
To bring this idea to life, the children imagined planting a tiny seed. They watched it grow into a tree — strong, hopeful and full of potential. But like all good stories, challenges soon arrived. Wild animals, stormy weather and even a swarm of bees tested the tree’s strength. For a moment, it looked as though the tree might not survive.
But this was no ordinary tree. This was a resilient tree.
With determination, courage and a little help from its roots, it grew tall and strong once again. The children loved seeing how setbacks didn’t mean the end — they were simply part of the journey.
We ended the session with a joyful group dance, celebrating not just the tree’s resilience, but the children’s own growing confidence in themselves.
Year 3 are learning that resilience isn’t about never struggling — it’s about finding the strength to grow again, even when things feel tough. And today, they showed just how brilliantly they can do that.
