Exploring the book The Bog Baby by Jeanne Willis

Date: 26th Apr 2018 @ 2:06pm

In English over the past couple of weeks, the children have been studying the book The Bog Baby by Jeanne Willis. It tells the tale of two sisters who catch an unusual create from a magic pond, when they should have been playing at their friends house. The girls have a fabulous time with their bog baby, but before long it becomes unwell. The girls confide in their mother and learn a difficult lesson - If you really love something that much, you have to let it go.

The children have produced some fabulous work based on this book including a description of the bog baby, instructions on how to look after a bog baby and we also imagined we were a bog baby and wrote a letter to the sisters thanking them for releasing us back into the magic pond. The children particularly enjoyed generating questions to find out the motives of the sisters and we then used these questions in role play, imagining we were doing interviews for the Mount Carmel New Channel!

Without doubt, the favourite activity of the last two weeks was our bog baby hunt. We investigated the school grounds and we were lucky enough to find thirty bog baby eggs in our playground, all of which hatched into our own little bog babies (you may have seen your child's bog baby come home with them last week).

Welcome to Mount Carmel RC Primary; a place where we proclaim Christ’s message of hope and celebrate the uniqueness of each child.
