Exploring Speech Writing in Year 3
Date: 1st Jul 2026 @ 11:53am
Today in Year 3, we became speech‑writing experts! Working with a partner, everyone thought carefully about how to use speech punctuation correctly. Together, each pair created their own set of rules to help us remember what good speech writing looks like.
Once we had finished, we gathered as a whole class to check our ideas. It was wonderful to see how confidently the children explained their thinking and how respectfully they listened to one another. Our rules were clear, accurate, and full of brilliant Year 3 teamwork.
With our rules ready, we turned our attention back to our exciting story, Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx. Using the instructions we had written, the children created a conversation between Marcy and Ra.
The classroom was full of imagination as everyone brought the characters to life through dialogue. It was inspiring to see how confidently the children used their new skills—adding speech marks, punctuation, and expression to make their conversations shine.
We are so proud of Year 3 for their focus, creativity, and growing confidence as writers. What a fantastic day of learning!
