Exploring 3D Shapes in Maths
Date: 20th Oct 2026 @ 12:10pm
Today in Maths, Year 3 became shape explorers as we investigated the fascinating world of 3D shapes!
We began by recapping our Year 2 learning, using our knowledge to recognise different 3D shapes and identify their properties. We discussed features such as faces, edges and vertices, and challenged ourselves to spot similarities and differences between shapes.
After that, the real fun began! Using Polydron, we worked together to build our own 3D shapes. We carefully joined the pieces together, thinking about which shapes would fit and how the faces connected. It was exciting to watch simple flat pieces transform into solid shapes right before our eyes.
The classroom was buzzing with teamwork, problem-solving and mathematical talk as we constructed cubes, cuboids, pyramids and more. Building the shapes helped us to understand their properties in a practical way and brought our learning to life.
We were incredibly proud of the perseverance and enthusiasm shown by everyone today. Well done, Year 3, for being such fantastic mathematicians and shape builders! We can't wait to continue our geometry learning and discover even more about the shapes all around us. ✨📐🔺🧊
