Eggs in Reception: Our surprise visitors!
Date: 10th Mar 2026 @ 9:38pm
Last week, the children made predictions about what could be inside an egg in the story The Odd Egg. They had some great predictions like a snake, a chick and a duckling. They are also learning about which animals are oviparous and which animals are vivaporous. Reception were very excited to find some special visitors in their classroom on Monday morning! Children returned from the hall to find an incubator of 5 eggs and we started to make some more predictions. This time the children thought they might be chicks, crocodiles, snakes and duckilings. We did not have to wait long before the first egg hatched and out came a very tired brown duckling. By the end of Monday, three ducklings had hatched with a fourth hatching on Tuesday morning. We are just waiting for the fifth egg to hatch. It is wonderful to watch the ducklings run around in their cage, sleep under their heater and tweet gently in our classroom. We are very excited to watch them change and grow and learn more about ducks and their ducklings.
