Celebrating Chinese New Year 2026
Date: 26th Feb 2026 @ 8:55pm
Reception enjoyed an exciting week learning about Chinese New Year. They learnt that 2026 is the year of the horse so learnt to paint the Chinese symbol for horse. They also enjoyed a talk from Mrs Tang who wrote 'Happy New Year' in Chinese and showed us a video of the dragon dance in Manchester. She told the children about the preparations for Chinese New Year like showering and cleaning the house the day before so that any bad luck is swept away ready to welcome the new year. She also told us about the delicious food that is eaten and the special clothes that are worn to celebrate. In our provision, we also collaged Chinese lanterns in red and yellow as red is believed to be a lucky colour. The cildren enjoyed tasting noodles, prawn crackers and vegetable spring rolls. We had a vote and created a tally to see which was the favourite food. Rabbits' favourite food was the noodles. The children enjoyed making horses out of red play dough and sequenced 'The Great Race.'
