Careers and Aspirations Day: Journey into Jobs

Date: 14th Jul 2026 @ 4:22pm

Last week, were delighted to host our latest Careers and Aspirations Day: Journey into Jobs, a truly inspiring day that encouraged our children to dream big, believe in themselves, and recognise that the opportunities available to them are endless.

Throughout the day, pupils had the opportunity to meet and learn from a wide range of visitors who generously shared their experiences, careers, and personal journeys. We were especially grateful to the many parent volunteers who gave up their time to support the day and provide our children with real-life insights into the world of work.

Our visitors represented a diverse range of professions, including a dentist, journalist, TV camera operator, local councillor, business owner and CEO, neighbourhood officer, software engineer, an A&E Doctor and a chef. Each speaker shared fascinating stories about their career paths, highlighting the different routes they took to reach their current roles. Children were encouraged to ask questions and discover more about the qualifications, skills, and personal qualities needed in each profession.

A key message that emerged throughout the day was that careers are rarely straightforward journeys. Our visitors spoke honestly about the challenges and setbacks they had faced, how they overcame obstacles, and the importance of resilience, determination, and hard work. They reminded our pupils that making mistakes is part of learning and that setbacks should never stop us from pursuing our goals.

Year 6 pupils also enjoyed participating in specialist workshops led by AMEY, a company working in street lighting and electric vehicle infrastructure. The sessions gave children an insight into modern engineering, sustainability, and the exciting career opportunities available in industries that are helping to shape the future.

The day also included an assembly led by Joe Ferguson, a professional athlete and World Championship medallist. Joe captivated the children with his inspirational story, sharing how dedication, perseverance, and a positive mindset helped him achieve success at the highest level of sport. His powerful message reinforced the theme of the day: that achievement is possible for everyone, regardless of the challenges they may face along the way.

By the end of the day, our pupils left feeling inspired, informed, and excited about their futures. Most importantly, they learned that there is no single path to success, that opportunities can arise in many different ways, and that it is never too late to try something new.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our visitors, parent volunteers, and partners who helped make this event such a memorable and impactful experience. Your willingness to share your stories has encouraged our children to think ambitiously about their futures and to believe that with faith, perseverance, and hard work, anything is possible.

'"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."' — Jeremiah 29:11.
