Celebrating Walter Tull for Black History Month
As part of our Black History Month learning, Year 2 have been discovering the inspiring story of Walter Tull.
Walter Tull was a pioneering footballer and one of the first Black officers in the British Army during the First World War. We learnt about his achievements, the challenges he faced and how he showed great courage, determination and resilience.
The children enjoyed sharing their learning by drawing pictures of Walter and writing interesting facts about his life. They also had the opportunity to share their findings with our visitor, Mr Coogan, proudly talking about what they had discovered.
The children worked hard to combine their artwork and writing to create a beautiful montage celebrating Walter Tull's life and achievements.
We are incredibly proud of the children's efforts and the thoughtful way they approached this important topic. Learning about Walter Tull has helped us to understand the importance of equality, perseverance and celebrating the contributions of Black people throughout history.
Well done, Year 2, for creating such a wonderful tribute to an inspirational historical figure!
