In June, our school was transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity during our much-anticipated Art Week. From Nursery to Year 6, children immersed themselves in the world of art, exploring different artists, styles and techniques. The enthusiasm, imagination and talent on display were truly remarkable and the results were nothing short of inspiring.
Our youngest artists in Nursery paid tribute to Henri Matisse, using his collage techniques to create bold and colourful “Le Papillon” butterfly artworks. Their collaboration resulted in a breathtaking large-scale class collage that brought their learning together in one joyful masterpiece.
Reception class explored the imaginative world of Renaissance artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, known for his portraits made from fruit and vegetables. The children designed their own quirky fruit-and-veg faces, thoughtfully choosing which items would represent each feature, before bringing their ideas to life through vivid paintings.
Year 1 stepped into the colourful world of Vincent van Gogh, focusing on his famous Sunflowers. They experimented with oil pastels to recreate the iconic piece, embracing Van Gogh’s expressive style, bold colours and textured brushwork.
Year 2 dove into Andy Warhol’s pop art, learning how repetition and bold colour create eye-catching visual effects. Their Warhol-inspired creations were full of contrast and personality.
Year 3 looked to Alma Thomas for inspiration, producing vibrant landscape pieces that blended abstract pointillism with collage techniques, showcasing an expressive use of colour and pattern.
Year 4 studied the work of Frida Kahlo, creating their own still life compositions using layered paint techniques. The finished pieces were full of detail, emotion and character.
Year 5 ventured into the world of sculpture through the work of Alberto Giacometti. After exploring movement and expression through sketching, the children created striking foil sculptures. They used dry brush painting to achieve the textured, metallic look that defines Giacometti’s style.
Year 6 explored the decorative richness of Gustav Klimt, creating stunning portraits inspired by Adele Bloch-Bauer and imaginative interpretations of The Tree of Life. Their work was filled with swirling branches, symbolic motifs and Klimt’s signature gold and intricate patterns.
Art Week was a celebration of creativity, curiosity, and artistic expression across the school. We’re incredibly proud of what our children achieved and you can view the art work in the video below.
