Year 1 have been learning about the famous sculptor and land artist Andy Goldsworthy. We began our topic by revisiting temporary sculptures made from playdough, using all the wonderful skills we developed in Reception. The children then explored the difference between temporary and permanent sculptures and discovered how natural materials can be used to create beautiful works of art.
They experimented with arranging natural materials into spiral shapes before working collaboratively in groups to create their own temporary sculptures using materials found in our school playground. The children also used natural materials to design and create their own framed sculptures, showing wonderful creativity and imagination.
We finished our topic by sketching our sculptures, carefully observing the shapes, patterns and details of our artwork. We were very proud of the children’s teamwork, creativity and the unique artwork they produced!
