A visit from a Grandparent
Date: 2nd Oct 2025 @ 10:11pm
Reception were very excited to welcome Mrs Curran to hear about her childhood and the games and toys that she played with. She showed the children two dolls, one which was 75 years old and made of plastic just like the children's dolls and another doll which was over 80 years old and made of pottery. Both dolls had clothes which were knitted by a kind dinner lady! Mrs Curran also showed the children her teaset from when she was a child, with the big difference being that it was made of china, whereas many of the children have plastic teasets. She told the children how she would be allowed to put water or sometimes orange juice in the teapot and have a tea party with her dolls. She also showed the children how she used to knit using a bobbin and it was known as dollybobbin knitting which she would do in the winter. The children also saw other familiar games that they play today: skipping, dominoes, hopscotch. A game that was new to the children was when Mrs Curran told them that they would tie a rope around an old fashioned lamppost to make a swing. The children listened so attentively and really enjoyed learning about the toys and games. They said a beautiful 'Thank you' at the end of her talk.
